Africa GHANA

Dates:

In Ghana pottery is generally made by women and fired in a bonfire. Much of the work is black pottery, an effect which is achieved by by smothering with sawdust or leaves after firing. The use of vegetal infusions gives a dark shiny surface. The women market their own pottery giving them economic independence.
