Jane COX

Dates: 1962

She trained at Camberwell College of Art (1988-1992) and at the Royal College of Art (1992-1994). Jane Cox grew up with the ceramics of Alan Caiger Smith and the Celtic wallpaper designs of Peggy Angus, both of which inspired he calligraphy based surface patterns, for which she has won several awards, including the Wedgwood Scholarship for surface design. This work has been influenced by the colours 'Aquitaine' (rich Turquoise) and 'Loire' (deep green)  of Southern France and Jamaica in the Caribbean, where she has worked. She uses various tecniques including throwing, jolleying and handbuilding and decorates using layers of coloured transparent glazes. Her workshop is based in London
