	UK ST IVES POTTERY Dates: The pottery at St Ives in Cornwall was established by Bernard Leach on his return from Japan in 1920 with Shoji Hamada. Bernard Leach (1887-1979) was a most important and influential artist potter of the twentieth century. His pottery in St Ives drew many makers, including Michael Cardew,Harry Davis, Cecil Baugh, Katharine Pleydell Bouverie, Warren MacKenzie and many others who worked as apprentices. Although most only stayed about two years, the knowledge they had gained at the pottery led them to start their own workshops, teach and travel, and so pass the 'Leach Legacy' around the world. After Bernard Leach's death in 1979 his wife Janet Darnell and later Trevor Corser continued the pottery unti 2005. The pottery is now in restoration. (www.leachproject.co.uk)
