Born in Simla India she came to the United Kingdom in 1947 and now lives and works in London. She studied at St Martins School of Art and Camberwell in London where Hans Coper and Lucie Rie were strong influences. She makes individual pieces in oxidised stoneware and porcelain. The delicate handbuilt pieces, which refer to organic forms, are sometimes thrown but more usually pinched. Deidre Burnett is a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association and her work is in museums in New York, Rotterdam and Pennsylvania.
