Animal Fantasies
Conception Aguilar, Ocotlan, Mexico
Conception Aguilar is one of four sisters who work in Southern Mexico in the small town of Ocotlan. They are famous for their figurative models, some nearly life size. Conception is best known for her devil and skeleton figures which are typical of Mexican folk traditions.
18. Noah's Ark (4.5" x 6")
The piece is once-fired earthenware and is not glazed but painted. Aguilar likes to model on a small scale using delicate details with brightly coloured painted decoration. In this case she has chosen to illustrate a popular Bible story.
