Animal Fantasies
Justin James - Wales
Justin James comes from Aberfan and was still a student when he exhibited these works at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1995.
6. Cow jug, 1995 (5" x 4.5")
Formed by slip-casting the terracotta jug is based on the throw-away milk carton and has a handle in the form of a cow's tail. The work offers a witty response to the familiar 19th century tradition of the cow creamer. He also made bone-china versions which can be seen in the photograph in the National Eisteddfod catalogue from 1995.
7. Balloon dog, 1995, (9" x 8")
In this piece the artist used a mould taken from a balloon to create a slip-cast form that just suggests the idea of an animal.
