Animal Fantasies
Meri Wells - Wales
Meri
Wells studied art and drama in the University of Wales Aberystwyth and
continues to work in theatre design, education and ceramics. Her studio
and workshop is in a beautiful old house in Aberhosan near Machynlleth
where she produces both raku and wood-fired figurative sculptures using
clays, some of which she digs locally. Part human, part animal or bird,
her creatures suggest emotions and tensions that lie under the surface
of all human relationships.
1. Two Figures, 2002 (12.5" x 9")
These figures are hand-modelled
stoneware and coloured with slips and oxides to give the subtle colourings
which are enhanced by the effects of the wood-fired kiln.
