	Richard BATTERHAM Dates: b.1936 He first began potting at Bryanston School under the direction of Donald Potter and his work reflects the influence of his two year apprenticeship with Bernard Leach at St Ives (1957-8). He is particularly noted for his skilled throwing often on a large scale using a Korean kick-wheel. He makes functional pottery including bowls, jugs, casseroles and teapots as well as handsome jars and boxes. Using only minimal decoration, the work is finished in a range of subtle glazes including ash glaze, semi-matt celadons as well as salt glaze. He has a strong individual philosophy and is highly regarded by professionals and students, as a 'potter's potter.'
