	John BLACKWELL Dates: b.1945 Born in Watford he worked for many years in the printing industry before starting an evening class in ceramics. In 1996 he obtained a First class degree in ceramics from UWIC before becoming a founder member of Firewords Studio in Cardiff. A series of portrait heads were completed in 1999. These have an emotional intensity reflective of the artist. Their surface is richly oxidised. John Blackwell lives and works on the Welsh Border, making tableware as well as scupltural ceramics.
