Chieko Yorigame is a Japanese potter who works in a contemporary style. This piece was purchased from Thought for Food, an exhibition of Japanese artists whose work relates to the Japanese interest in serving food in beautiful visual ways. In this unusual cup the delicate colours of turquoise and grey, the sheen of the glaze and the fineness of the porcelain dish are initially gentle to the eye. By contrast, the three small spikes protruding above the rim create a more aggressive note against the uneven rim and soft base of the pot.
