Beverley Bell Hughes is an award-winning potter who lives near Llandudno, Wales with her husband, Terry who is also a potter. As Beverley is partially sighted the touch and feel of clay in both its fired and unfired forms is very important. Beverley Bell Hughes – Pod Pot, 1987 Stoneware with porcelainLiving by the sea in North Wales her work is inspired by nature and the sand, rocks and rugged landscape of the area. She aims to create a bond between the clay dug from the earth and the natural forms of the earth’s surface. This piece is hand modelled from coarse stoneware clay enhanced by the addition of crushed pre-fired porcelain. Straps of clay have been built up into a layered vessel with a crusty, flecked surface.
