	Mike DODD Dates: B.1943 Mike Dodd studied pottery under Donald Potter (a student of Eric Gill) while at school in Dorset. He studied medicine at Cambridge for three years before an interest in Zen Buddhism directed him back towards pottery. He did a postgraduate course in Ceramics at Hammersmith School of Art (1966-1967), and shortly afterwards set up his own workshop. He has worked with various kilns, including building a wood-fired Korean climbing kiln in Cornwall, using local materials to make the bricks in 1975. A year later, he built another one in Peru where he spent six months working for the "Amuesha Indian Project" . He specialises in making reduction-fired utilitarian stoneware, largely influenced by Chinese, Korean and Medieval English pottery. Throughout his career he has preferred to use local materials wherever his workshops are - from Cornwall to Carlisle and most recently in Somerset. He has held many teaching positions in art colleges and has recently published his autobiography 'An Autobiography of Sorts'.
