Emma RODGERS (England)

Dates: b.1974

Emma Rodgers was born in the Wirral where she still lives and works. She studied ceramics at Wolverhampton University receiving a B.A. Hons and later an M.A.. Since graduating she has exhibited internationally, and her work has been purchased by public collections in the UK and abroad.

She expresses her interest in movement and the musculature of the figure, human and animal, through her sculptures which she makes in bronze as well as clay. She works from the torso out, attaching limbs where the natural joints are in the body. For her animal sculptures, she studies Victorian taxidermy in museums and her figures are often evocative of half perished museum pieces. She demonstrated at the International Ceramics Festival in 2011, where for equipment she simply requested a rolling pin and a knife. She is a Professional Member (Fellow) of the Craft Potters Association.
