Geoffrey SWINDELL
Dates: b. 1945
Born in Stoke on Trent where many members of his family worked in the pottery industry, he studied in Stoke on Trent and at the Royal College of Art where he was taught by Hans Coper. In 1975 Swindell settled in Wales and, until 2003, was a lecturer at Cardiff College of Art. He has continued to produce work throughout his teaching career. His small scale ceramic forms require the fine texture and whiteness of porcelain. He uses a wide range of glazes to achieve textured, smooth and lustre finishes. The forms are inspired by his childhood life living in the small space of a crowded terrace house and such things as miniature forms, toys, seed heads and sea creatures. |
