Georges SERRE (France)Dates: 1889-1956After an apprenticeship in the Sevres factory he spent a number of years in South East Asia where he learnt about oriental ceramics. On his return in 1922 he set up a studio at Sevres where he took in work for sculptors but at the same time produced his own ceramics in hand-thrown wood-fired stoneware with thick glazes. In his later work he incorporated geometric and figurative incised decoration under the glaze. |
