Niek HOOGLAND (Netherlands)Dates: b.1953He was born in Tegelen (dreived from the Latin word for roof tile) an area with a rich ceramic tradition. Hoogland describes himself as a villiage potter, and works within the regional character. He makes contemporary ceramics, including individual pieces, commemorative dishes and utilitarian ware. He uses eathenware from Tegelen, applies coloured engobes with brushes and slip trailers after drying, and finally uses sgraffitto techniques to reveal the underlying clay. |
