Alfred G and H HOPKINSDates: active 1910-1936The Hopkins Brothers of 208 Lambeth Road, SE1 were active in the second decade of the twentieth century making art pottery plates and vases with underglaze decoration of birds, flowers, inscriptions and even during the First World War a topical design with a battleship. During the 1920s working in stoneware and porcelain they turned to a more experimental approach with coloured and lustrous glaze effects particularly in salt-glaze. They also modelled animals and figures and marketed materials for other potters. Alfred Hopkins taught pottery at Camberwell School of Art. |
