Jane PERRYMANDates: b.1947
Born in London, she did an Industrial Ceramics course at Hornsey College of Art (1965-69) which she has described as a disaster, leaving her unable to work creatively for another 5 years. Initially she worked as a secondary school art teacher before winning a British Council Scholarship to Keramisch Werkcentrum, Holland in 1980. Here she learned and practiced a variety of techniques with other international potters. She is influenced by the traditional pottery and textiles of India and Africa as well as early European Celtic pottery. Her hand built smoke fired pottery continuously explores the vessel form. |
