Born in London she discovered the excitement of ceramics while at school. She studied for her BA in Ceramics at Bristol, and later for an MA at the Royal College of Art, London. She has travelled widely but now lives and works in North London. She is noted for her extravagant sculptural vessels and rich bright glazes. Many of her large scale works have been commissioned for public spaces such as nature reserves, foyers and parks, including Rise and Shine Magic Fish in Lea Valley Park and At Home With Kate Malone in the Geffrye Museum, London. In 2003 she published "Kate Malone A Book of Pots" in which she writes about her making techniques, philosophy and travel diaries through twenty years of ceramic practice.
