	Katherine LAWRENCE Dates: b.1953 Born in Congleton, Cheshire, she trained at Loughborough College of Art and in 1979 started her own pottery in Cumbria. She has described her work as 'Agateware', achieved by casting several strata of different coloured clays. The shapes are then carved and rubbed to give unusual effects and colours. In 1989 she became head of Ceramics at Central St Martins College of Art and Design.
