MAJOLICA WORKS

Dates: 1985-

Majolica Works is a small studio set up by Wendy Jones and Liam Curtin in the 1980s. They produce a range of tin glazed earthenware which is thrown and hand painted using traditional majolica techniques.

Liam Curtin was influenced by Bernard Leach in the 1970s, but on meeting Wendy Jones, began to use more colour in his work. After a few years he found ceramics too limiting and began his career in public art in 1992. Since then he has made sculptural work with the community and the environment in the Northen Quarter of Manchester.

Wendy Jones now creates digital art, as well as working with ceramics and public art. She has also played a key role in the regeneration of the Northen Quarter.
