Micki SCHLOESSINGKDates: b.1949Was born in London and discovered pots and pot making while travelling in India. She had workshop experience in Co. Mayo, Eire before studying studio pottery at Harrow School of Art in 1970-72 under Mick Casson and Victor Margrie. Micki Schloessingk travelled in Europe, gaining experience in salt-glazing and wood firing. In 1974 she set up her first pottery in North Yorkshire and in 1987 moved to North Gower, South Wales, where she continues to live and work. Her work is mainly salt glaze table-wares thrown in a flowing vigorous style. Her vessels draw on both tradition and her own craft skill. The colours are rich rusts, oranges and reds with streaks of copper greens, peaty browns and bluish blacks. Micki Schloessingk is a Fellow of the Craftsmen Potters Association. She demonstrates widely and in 1997 she visited the International Ceramics Festival in Aberystwyth, at which the two items in the Collection were purchased |
