Jeff MINCHAM (Australia)

Dates: b. 1950

Born in Milang, South Australia, he studied at both the South Australian and Tasmanian Schools of Art and is now one of Australia's most celebrated ceramic artists. Working in the traditional Japanese Raku process, he has developed a powerful, individual style creating large vessels. His work is the result of complex processes including several firings. The textures and tones reflect the experience of the changing natural world around his Adelaide home. A unique patination process gives his work a highly tactile surface. He has been awarded the prestigious New Zealand Fletcher Challenge Ceramics Award in 1985 and again in 1989. In 1991 he demonstrated at the International Ceramics Festival in Aberystwyth, at which time the work in the collection was purchased.
