Morgen HALL

Dates: b. 1960

Born in the United States, she spent her early years in Scotland. She trained in ceramics in the 1980s at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen followed by an MA in Cardiff where she now lives and works. She has always been committed to the production of tableware intended for everyday use. The playful forms and lively decorated surfaces emphasise the celebratory aspects of mealtimes offering an irresistible invitation to take tea. The wares are wheel-thrown in a fine red earthenware, impressed patterned with a roulette and turned to give a very precise finish. The decoration uses coloured slips and paper stencils. Between 1998-2001, as a Research fellow in Cardiff, Morgen Hall investigated ways of combining more industrial methods with hand production and introduced aspects of computer technology to create the designs.
