John WARD

Dates: b. 1938

Born in North London and studied ceramics at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts (1966-1970) where visiting teachers included Hans Coper and Lucie Rie. His coiled stoneware pots, made with precision and smooth surfaces are shaped into angular forms and coloured with pale glazes or sometimes with contrasting geometries in black and white. Ward focuses on the vessel shape, although function is not his immediate concern. In 1975 he moved to West Wales where he continues to live and work.
