UK DOULTONDates: est 1793The firm originally specialised in sanitary stoneware but from the 1870s formed a link with Lambeth School of Art to create a fruitful development in various forms of art pottery. By the 1890s they were employing over three hundred artists of whom George Tinworth was one of the best known. In 1914 C J Noke became the art director and he continued the tradition by creating new kinds of decorative wares promoting modern forms and experimenting with glaze effects as can be seen in the Chang pottery in this collection. |
