Ruthanne TUDBALL
Dates: b.1948
Born in California it was not until she moved to Britain in 1968 that she discovered the 'lure of clay when handling hand made bowls in a Cardiff market'. Self taught for several years, by 1987 she was accepted at Goldsmith's College London for a post-graduate course. Drawing became as important as clay, and life drawing finds echoes in her work. Her techniques of finishing pots wet on the wheel and soda glazing give her work its distinctive characteristics. She enjoys teaching and encouraging students to find their own individual voice. She has her own pottery in East Dereham, Norfolk. In 1992 Ruthanne Tudball had an exhibtion in the Aberystwyth Arts Centre at which the works in the collection were purchased. Author of 'Soda Glazing' 1995, A & C Black.
