The ceramic collection at Aberystwyth has developed over many years. An early collection donated by George Ernest Powell of Nanteos, and Sidney Greenslade's work in the 1920s and 1930s created a significant core for the present expanding collection.

Potters were not always individually identified and even in the early twentieth century little may be known. Therefore the collection includes items of quality, the makers of which are unknown.
