Vineet KACKER (India)

Dates: b.1965

Born in New Delhi, India, he studied architecture from1983-1988. While travelling through the Himalayas in 1989, he came across the Andretta Pottery in the Kangra Valley and was immediately seduced by the craft. He studied ceramics under Ray Meeker and Deborah Smith at Pondicherry. In 1998 he spent 3 months at the University of Wales, Cardiff and later worked with Sandy Brown and Alan Caiger-Smith. He is influenced by Buddhist culture and imagery and enjoys the combination of old and new. He makes contemporary vessel forms in wood-fired stoneware which carry echoes of ancient objects. When he was working in Cardiff his work appeared in the touring exhibition of ceramics in Wales 'The cat Scratched little Johnny', 1999.
