c1182 - 'Silenus'

Vladimir TSIVIN (Russia)

Dates: b. 1949

Born in Leningrad, Russia (now St Petersburg) he studied until 1972 and became a member of the Artists' Union of Leningrad after 1975. Tsivin continues to live and works in St Petersburg, but his travels, particularly to Oregon, USA, have influenced his work. He uses either porcelain or china clay for his simple sculptural pieces based upon a reinterpretation of figurative forms. The shape of the body is subtlety rather than explicitly expressed. Decoration is a thin layer of surface patterning. In 1989 he was a demonstrator at the International Ceramic Festival in Aberystwyth after which the piece in the collection was purchased.
